I hope you enjoy looking at some of the activities
that we have done so far this year.
Please find links to important documents below.
Monday 21st April
We hope you have all had a great Easter break and enjoyed some of the lovely sunshine we have had over the last two weeks.
Our PE days have changed for this term and will now be on Tuesday AND Wednesday - if you are reading this, please spread the word!
We look forward to seeing you all, bright and early, tomorrow morning
IN YOUR PE KITS!
Friday 4th April
Congratulations to our home-learner of the week for your fact file of information about the scientist, Jane Goodall.
Friday 28th March
Our DT project this term was to develop a basic spaghetti bolognese recipe. The children had to think about what they would include, what they would substitute and what they might add to it to make a healthier version. There were many ideas and variations suggested and we managed to prepare and cook everything so that everyone had their own unique version!
Friday 28th March
Great home learning about Isaac Newton this week - well done for being our home-learner of the week!
Friday 21st March
Well done to our home learner of the week this week for some great research and presentation of your learning!
Friday 7th March
Well done to our home-learner of the
week and poetry recital competition
winner for your performance of
A Teacher's Gift.
Thursday 6th March
We loved seeing all
the fabulous costumes and trying to work
out the words everyone had come dressed as.
We enjoyed doing some different book related activities today. Children made
their own mini-books and spent time planning a story, designing a book cover
for it and writing the blurb.
Wednesday 26th February
We continue our science topic on FORCES, investigating what the
scientist, Galileo Galilei, did to prove the effects of gravity on falling objects.
He claimed that it didn't matter how heavy an object was, as long as they
were the same shape and size, they would fall at the same rate and hit
the ground at the same time.
We didn't believe this ... until ... we tried it for ourselves!
to Term Four!
I hope you have all had a good half term and are ready to begin the second half of our year in Willow.
There is only one change to the timetable for this term and that is that PE is now on a Wednesday instead of a Thursday - our PE days, when children should come to school in school PE kit, are Monday and Wednesday.
Monday will be football - whenever possible, this will happen on the field so children will need to bring a pair of old trainers or appropriate footwear in a plastic bag that they can change into as these will probably get a little muddy. Children can then change back and put their muddy shoes back into the plastic bag when they come back into school.
Wednesday will be Fitness - this will be a combination of indoor and outdoor activities.
Friday 14th February
A small selection of SILLY SOCKS!
Thursday 13th & Friday 14th February
The children have been thoroughly engaged in our computing topic
for this term - programming CRUMBLES.
TERM 3 Art Project
I Need Space
During this project, we looked at and discussed a range of space imagery and learned what retrofuturism is. We looked at the work of Teis Albers and created a printing plate to make a background then designed our own ideas of futuristic images to draw onto our printed backgrounds.
Friday 7th February
Congratulations to this week's
Home Learning Star!
We really liked the unique way that you presented your work this week.
Well done.
Wednesday 5th February
We have begun our science topic on FORCES with our first
investigation into the affects of friction.
Friday 31st January
Congratulations to our home learner of the week for some lovely artwork of a Viking criminal!
Friday 24th January
Congratulations to our home learner of the week for great research into Viking clothing and excellent presentation.
Wednesday 22nd January
Over the last couple of weeks in science, we have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes. This week, the children we challenged to separate a mixture of 5 different materials (sand, salt, paperclips, rice, water) using the knowledge they have gained. With lots of thought and great teamwork, all groups successfully completed the challenge.
Friday 17th January
Well done to this week's home learner of the week for some great translation work from Viking runes to English and writing your own message in runes. Excellent work!
Friday 10th January
Well done to these two fabulous home learning examples from the end of last term. The letters that were written were so thoughtful and well presented. Well done!
Monday 6th January 2025
Good morning everyone - we hope you had a great Christmas and New Year and are ready to come back to school for another term of fun and learning.
There are a couple of changes to the class set up this term - Mrs Hillsdon will be in Willow class on a Monday now instead of a Tuesday and Mrs Colley is now supporting children in Mulberry class but we will still be able to say hello to her and give her a smile when we see her around school.
For this term, PE will be on a Monday and Thursday afternoon so children should come to school in PE kits on these days. Monday will usually be gymnastics in the hall and Thursday will be hockey outside (weather dependent).
For more details of our exciting spring term curriculum, follow the above link to Willow curriculum maps.
Friday 13th December
Well done to all our igloo builders for this week's home learning.
Design & Technology
We have had a great 2 days completing this term's DT project - DOODLERS!
The children have used their knowledge of electrical circuits to build and their creative skills to design and create an individual doodler.
We hope you enjoy the videos!
Friday 6th December
Two fabulous home learners' of the week this week!
Great presentation and artwork in your
Antarctic Explorer's Guide to Wildlife - well done!
Friday 29th November
Yet another excellent piece of home learning. I was so impressed when I read this diary written in role as one of the dogs on the Endurance during Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica. Well done!
Friday 22nd November
Well done this week's home-learner of the week for some excellent research about glaciers and great presentation.
Thursday 21st November
The class were practicing their questioning skills today as they interviewed Mary and Joseph in an attempt to find evidence to support the prophecies in the text in RE. Well done to Mary and Joseph for their excellent acting skills in this hot-seating activity.
Wednesday 20th November
In geography today, we were learning about global trade and how the oceans play an important role in this.
Friday 15th November
Congratulations to our excellent home-learner of the week, finding out all about Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to cross Antarctica.
Friday 8th November
It has been a busy first week back - the children were wowed in the astronomy dome on Wednesday. Unfortunately were weren't able to take photos to share with you but I hope they have come home with exciting stories of space and all the things they saw in the dome.
We have also been busy rehearsing for our class assembly next Thursday (14th) which we hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend to support the children and find out what they have been learning about. Watch this SPACE!
And finally - we have begun our new class
book, Shackleton's Journey by William Grill.
The children already have many questions
about what this intrepid explorer did and
what happens on his journey. Over the course
of this term, we will find out.
Friday 25th October
It's been a great final week of a very long term. The children have been amazing
and really enjoyed showing off their rocket creations from this week's home learning
- well done all!
Friday 18th October
Well done to our fabulous home-learners of
the week for completing their moon diaries
and explanations as to why the moon
appears to change shape - well done!
Thursday 17th October 2024
Yesterday, Willow class learned
how to save a life. We joined
an online session with many
other primary schools around
the country and learned about
the job a paramedic does, the
air ambulance, how to get
help in an emergency and how
to perform CPR.
The teddies had a nice chilled morning in the reading corner before becoming patients for the afternoon. Please note that no teddies were injured during our practice session!
Friday 11th October 2024
Congratulations to this week's home-learner of the week for an amazing newspaper report about the moon landing. Well done!
Thursday 10th October
Friday 4th October 2024
Congratulations to our home-learner
of the week for another excellent
piece of home-learning, creating
a job advert for an astronaut.
Thursday 3rd October
Willow class were set a challenge this afternoon in PSHE which was to build the tallest tower - no further instructions were given. The following discussions were around how to organise and distribute the roles within a team and what can be done to make sure everything runs smoothly. After making up some rules for their team, each group had another go at building the tallest tower they could.
I think we have some budding engineers in Willow - well done to all!
Friday 27th September
Huge congratulations to this week's Home-Learner of the Week for excellent presentation of work about the constellations. Well done!
Monday 23rd September
Art Project - Installation Art
Our art project for this term was Installation Art. This is usually a large piece of art or installation that transforms a space. As you can imagine, with 33 children working in the classroom, we had to scale this down a bit. The children used a variety of painting and making skills to transform a room (in a box) into a solar system. We used small figures to make the space look larger and experimented with lighting to get the best effects. I think you will agree that the final outcomes are out of this world!
Friday 20th September
The standard of home-learning this week was excellent which made it very difficult to choose our home-learners of the week. We finally settled on two very different styles of timeline - well done to both of you!
Thursday 12th September
Well done to our first home-learners
of the week for some excellent
home learning about Tim Peake l
inked to our science topic.
Wednesday 11th September
We have had another excellent few days of learning in Willow class, I am so proud of how hard everyone is working and of the excellent participation in lessons. Our Earth and Space theme is continuing into our English work this term as children have become recruits at NASA and are preparing to write a non-fiction report - watch this SPACE for more updates!
I hope you have all had a good summer holiday and have enjoyed the sunshine over the last few weeks.
The children have all returned to school ready to learn and we have had such a great start to our year in Willow class.
Below, you will find the Autumn curriculum map with everything we will be covering over the next 2 terms, as well as our first newsletter with some key information on.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to
