Welcome to West Malling
Church of England Primary School
and The McGinty Speech and Language SRP!
Welcome to our school and our website.
We are a happy one-form entry Primary School located in the heart of historic West Malling in Kent. We benefit from a stunning set of school buildings and grounds which look across the Old County Cricket Ground and across to the North Downs.
We strive to live out our school vision which reflects our focus on flourishing and including others.
As God’s children we grow and learn together, encouraging everyone in our community to “let their light shine” (Matthew 5:16). We strive to be the best we can be, knowing that “what we will be has not yet been revealed” (1 John 3:2). Through love, trust, compassion, hope, forgiveness and perseverance, we flourish as one inclusive family
Based in the Gospels of Matthew and John, and reflecting the Church of England vision that schools enable “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10), our vision reflects our school’s ambition to understand each individual child in our care, their needs, talents and capabilities, and our school’s trust that for each child there is a plan in which we can have hope and faith. As a school we are ambitious for both the academic attainment and progress of our pupils and we care deeply that each child lives out our school values of love, trust, compassion, hope, forgiveness and perseverance.
Our aim is to provide a first-class, rounded education which enables each individual child to discover his or her innate skills and talents and make a positive contribution to society. We are a "good" school where "the Christian vision is woven through school life so that the community actively embrace inclusion and flourishing. As a result, pupils express their thoughts and act with certainty" (SIAMS inspection 2022). West Malling also has a specialist resource provision in the McGinty Speech and Language SRP for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan and a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
Our values of love, trust, compassion, hope, forgiveness and perseverance underpin our curriculum and our interactions with each other as staff, students and parents. "Pupils are happy and thrive in this caring school. Children develop very positive friendships with one another." (Ofsted 2023)
We are ambitious for each individual student in our school and "provide a well-sequenced and ambitious curriculum" (Ofsted 2023). All groups of pupils make good progress here and benefit from a wealth of enrichment opportunities and support. "Teachers identify the needs of pupils with SEND swiftly and provide meaningful adaptations to the curriculum. Staff support children with SEND with a range of supportive resources." (Ofsted 2023)
As a school we are fully committed to working in partnership with parents. We operate an "open door" policy and staff are happy to answer routine queries after school. Furthermore we welcome offers of volunteer help, especially to hear readers in all our classes.
We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taste of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.
We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to email the school at office@west-malling.kent.sch.uk with any queries you may have.
There is something truly special at West Malling, a feeling and ethos that visitors consistently comment upon and something that we work hard to uphold.
We invite you to visit us and see for yourself the West Malling difference.
