Keep an eye out on parent mail as you will be receiving your £1 book token digitally this year to use.  There are some great books available to purchase this year!

As a special treat this year, some children in Year 6 have recorded some stories that you might like to listen to. Head over to the Ash class page to hear them!
I have also added a World Book Day Rap that you will enjoy watching!

We have our Zoom session later on this morning at 11.30.  Have any show and tell ready and then we will be having a scavenger hunt.

Today's special friend in phonics is 'ur'.  Have a go at reading the words and writing some of them too.  Next week, you will be watching some phonic session video that are just like we used to have in school.

Thursday 25th February

Hello Lime class!

Well done - you have started off the term really well and we are seeing some great learning!

Today we are starting a new science topic looking at the seasons and how they change.  We are going to begin by looking at the different types of weather in each of the 4 seasons.

For your maths learning, it is the activities from the video again today.  You will be finding objects to measure and deciding what you are going to use to measure them.

Our special friend for phonics is 'are'.  This one is a bit tricky as we usually want to read 'are' like our tricky red word - how are you?  We need to remember it is another way of writing the air sound - care and share.

Don't forget to have a go at 'Live Mathletics' and do some reading on Bug Club too.

Keep up this brilliant learning Lime class! smiley

Wednesday 24th February

Good morning Lime Class!  It was really nice to see lots of you on our Zoom session yesterday.  I hope you enjoyed seeing each other and starting our topic learning for this term.

Today in English you are going to be taking on the role of the Queen Bee from our Anansi story and doing some hot seating, which I know so many of you are brilliant at!

For maths there is a worksheet that goes with the video looking at comparing length and height.

The special friend in phonics today is 'aw'.  Have a go at reading the real and nonsense words then have a go at writing your own words.

In RE we are starting a new topic on Humanism.  There is an activity for you to do at the end of the video that could link with the History work you did yesterday.

Our special friend in Phonics today is 'oi'.  Have a go at reading the real words and nonsense words.  Can you write any of your own?

Don't forget to send us any of your learning.  It could be some of the other fun things that you are doing at home too! blush

Monday 22nd February

Good Morning Lime class!  Welcome to the start of Term 4.  I hope you have all had a lovely week and managed to enjoy some of the sunshine we had?  Hopefully it's a sign that Spring is on the way!

This term, we will continue our learning online just as we did in Term 3, but hopefully we can get back to school soon!

Our Zoom sessions will continue at 11.30 on Tuesday and Friday.  We will be starting our history learning in Tuesdays session so Science will be included on Thursdays daily sheet.

In English we are going to be looking at the story of Anansi and Tiger.  We will start by listening to the story today and thinking about 6 different parts of the plot.  There is a template below you can use if you wish.

We are going to move on with our phonics learning and look at new 'special friends'.  We will start with looking at 'ea' today.  Have a go at reading the real words and nonsense words.  Can you think of any other words with the 'ea' sound in?  There will be some videos for you to watch later on in the week to help you.

For our maths learning, we are going to start a new unit on length and height.  There will be a few days when it will be a practical activity and not a written sheet.  Today we are going to look at length and the activities are explained in the video.

Don't forget to log in to Bug Club and Mathletics to practise your reading and maths learning.

Your challenge for this week is to find things to create a rainbow wheel.  You could use sweets, objects or colouring pens/pencils.  Here are some examples to help you:

You all worked so hard last term and we were so impressed with all the fantastic work you produced.  We are looking forward to seeing you all try your best again this term!

Have a great first day back!  smiley

Friday 12th February

We have made it to the end of term!  We are all so proud of how hard you have worked and have been super impressed with all the learning you have sent to us!  A big thank you to Mums and Dads for all your continued support! We hope you have all received a special delivery in your emails. smiley

Today is 'Screen Free Friday' and I have added some ideas for you below.  Please just pick one or two from each row but most importantly make special memories with your family.

Remember there is no Zoom session today but please join Mr Rye for whole school worship at 10.30 to celebrate the end of term.  The link for this was sent in an email.

Have a lovely half term!  laugh

Thursday 11th February.

Good morning Lime Class!

Today is your last day of home learning for this term, as tomorrow is 'no screen' Friday!  You have all worked so hard and we have seen lots of great learning - well done!

We are finishing our learning on Brazil today and thinking about all the things we have learnt this term.  Please don't worry about the activity that is set at the end of the video, I have provided a separate activity sheet for you to do instead!

For your phonics learning today, I would like you to use the special friends to create names for the aliens.  The stranger the better!  Make sure you can sound out the name, so have fun putting the sounds together!

Don't forget we have our 'Crazy hair' Zoom today at 11.30 instead of Friday's session!  I look forward to seeing your cool hairstyles!

Keep up your amazing learning Lime class!  laugh

Wednesday 10th February

Hello Lime Class!  It was so lovely to see lots of you on our Zoom session yesterday and hearing about all the fun you've been having in the snow!

For your English learning today, I would like you to watch the video about how Chinese New Year is celebrated.  Then have a go at writing a sentence about the 4 pictures to explain how they are celebrating their New Year.

Your Phonics today is a little bit different as you will be thinking about a few of the special friends we have learnt.  Read the words and match it to the picture.  Remember - look for the special friend, Fred talk the word and then read it.  There is no need to print the sheet, you can read them from the screen.

When you watch the maths video today, please make sure you only watch it up to the part where is says to pause to complete question 3.  (More information on the daily sheet).

In RE we are finishing our learning on good news.  There is an activity for you to do at the end of the video and I have included a template below that you can use if you want to.

Hello Lime Class!  I am looking forward to seeing you all at our Zoom session at 11.30.  We will be having our final Science lesson for this term and looking at the life cycle of a butterfly.

Our special friend in Phonics today is 'oy'.  Roll a dice or pick a number card and have a go at reading the words next to that number.  A grown up could say the word and you have a go at writing it - don't forget to underline the special friend!

For English today, you will need to watch my Chinese New Year story video again and have a go at writing sentences about 3 different parts of the story.

Don't forget to have a go at the Mathletics tasks I have set you and to practise your reading on Bug Club!  smiley

After our Zoom session, here are some ideas to help you create your own life cycle of a butterfly.

Monday 8th February

Good morning Lime Class!  We have made it to the last week of term!  I hope you all had a nice weekend and managed to get outside for some fun in the snow!

You have all worked so hard this term and especially for the last few weeks with your diary writing in English.  So, this week we are going to have a little bit of fun with our English learning and will be looking at Chinese New Year.  For today's lesson, you will need to watch my story video below to find out about the animals in the Chinese Zodiac and complete a review of the story.

Today for Phonics, you will be looking at the 'ou' special friend.  Write the words then can you spot which ones have the 'ou' sound in?  Look carefully as it's not all of them!

For your challenge this week, I would like you to have a go at making a Chinese lantern.  You can be as creative as you like.  Here is an idea to help you:

Wednesday 3rd February

Hello Lime Class!  It was really nice to see lots of you on our Zoom session yesterday.  How did you get on creating a carnivore, herbivore and omnivore stomach?

Below is your learning for today.  The special friend in phonics today is 'or'.  Read each word by using 'Fred talk' and then see if you can find them in the word search. Again there is no need to print as the important part is to read the words which you can do from the screen.

There is a lot of writing today from the video for English so please just do what you can!  I am happy for grown ups to scribe some of the sentences so you are just writing the important/main words.

Today's maths is questions 5 and 6 from the worksheet you had yesterday.  Watch the video and then answer the questions.

In RE we are continuing with our learning on good news.  There is an activity for you to do at the end of the video and I have included a template below that you can use if you want to.

Good morning Lime class!  I am looking forward to seeing you all at our Zoom session at 11.30.  We will be continuing with our Science learning and looking at what animals eat.

Our special friend in Phonics today is 'ar'.  Have a look at the pictures.  If they have the 'ar' sound in them, then they go into the piggy bank.  You could just write the words or draw the pictures too!

You will notice that I haven't set you any tasks this week on Mathletics as I would like you to practise your recall of addition and subtraction by using 'Live Mathletics.'

Don't forget to send in any pictures of your bird feeders!  We have seen some great ones so far! blush

After our zoom session, these ideas will help you with the Science activity to create a 'stomach' of a Carnivore, Herbivore and Omnivore.

Carnivore, Herbivore and Omnivore stomachs!

Monday 1st February.

Good morning Lime Class!  I hope you all had a nice weekend.  I can't believe it is the first of February today - pinch punch the first of the month! Did anybody have a go at spending some time watching for any birds in their garden?  I enjoyed taking part on Saturday morning and these were some of the birds I saw - Bluetits, Robins, Blackbird, Magpie and a Great Spotted Woodpecker!  Your challenge this week is to make an easy bird feeder.  There are some ideas to help you that I added on Friday.

Below is today's learning.  We are continuing with our recount writing in English this week.  There are new 'red tricky words' for you to practise and I will be adding a new phonics activity each day.  Today you will be looking at the long oo and short oo special friends again.  Roll a dice or use number cards 1-6.  Whatever number you get, you can read the words in that row or a grown up could say the word and you can have a go at writing it. Does the word need the long oo or the short oo sound?  Don't forget you can use the 'Phonicsplay' games to help you too!

Have another great week of learning.  You are all amazing!  smiley

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch and your challenge for next week.

Have a look at the video that Mrs Reeves has added to the Daisy Class page.  If you want to take part this weekend, you will need to find an hour to count the birds you see in your garden.  There is also a link below to the RSPB website with more information.  I thought it would be a nice idea to include this with our challenge for next week.  Have a go at making some easy bird-feeders to put out in your garden.  There is a link with some ideas of how to make them below!  Don't forget to send me any pictures!  Have fun!

The special friend in phonics today is 'igh'.  Fred talk each of the words and colour the real words 1 colour and the nonsense words a different colour.  There is no need to print the sheet, you could copy/write the words using 2 different coloured pens.

There is the video for our RE learning where we are continuing to look at good news.  There is an activity for you to do at the end and a template attached if it helps you.

I have an active challenge for you this week.  Use the letters in your name and complete the activity for each letter.  You could challenge yourself even further by including your surname and even your middle name.  Can you manage to do it every day?  Have fun and let me know how you get on!

Hello Lime Class! I hope you all managed to have a nice weekend even though it has been very cold outside!

Below is your learning for today.  I’ve kept the format the same as last weeks as I hope you found this easy to follow.  I have given you new ‘tricky red words’ to learn this week and there will be a new phonic sound to practice each day.  In English, we are continuing our work on Jack and the Beanstalk.  You will notice that the maths activity today is a practical one.  Be as creative as you like to practise writing/forming numbers 11-20.
I have a little challenge this week for you which I hope you will find fun! Seeing as it is soooooo cold at the moment, here are some activities you might like to try.  The first one is better first thing in the morning when it is freezing, especially if it is icy outside.  Take your bubbles and have a go at blowing some outside - I think you will be amazed at what you find!

Another challenge for you is this: put some things (leaves, petals, berries) in a small pot or tub with part of some string/cord/ribbon in it for hanging.  Add a bit of water and leave outside overnight especially if it is going to fall below zero degrees. Once frozen, remove from the container.

Don’t forget to send me your photos and let me know how you get on!

Have another fantastic week of learning Lime class and  keep on letting your light shine!

Mrs Woodhouse 😀

Friday 8th January.

We have made it to the end of our first week of remote teaching and learning.  A big well done to all of you for the hard work and brilliant learning you have produced.  We are all so proud of you!  A big thank you to all the adults that are supporting you with your learning at home.  We know that this is a strange time for everyone but we really appreciate all the support you are giving to your children and to us at school.

We look forward to seeing you later on today at our zoom session at 11.30.  laugh

Don’t forget our Zoom session tomorrow (Friday) at 11.30.  I will be announcing our Learner of the Week which will be very exciting! If you have any work or show and tell that you would like to share then please have it ready with you.  I am looking forward to seeing you all again tomorrow morning! 😀

Thursday 7th January.

Lime class, you are impressing us so much with your learning.  We are all so proud of how much you are engaging with the lessons and activities we have given you.  A big gold star for all of you!

We are going to begin our topic learning today which is geography and all about Brazil.  I have added the information to the daily learning sheet.  (Mums and Dads - please have a look as there is a little heads up about the video on there)!  I think you will enjoy finding out about Brazil!  Let me know how you get on.

Mrs Woodhouse

Wednesday 6th January.

It was lovely to see so many of you during our Zoom session yesterday.  It's really nice that we could get together to do some learning and I hope you enjoyed seeing your friends too!

We saw some more amazing learning from you yesterday.  I was super impressed with the science work you did following on from the Zoom lesson.  It looked like lots of you had fun doing that!

Below is your learning for today.  You will notice that there are no maths sheets to complete today.  Instead, the activity is taken from the video - to create a picture or model using 2D shapes.  Don't forget to send us your photos of your imaginative creations.

We are also going to do some RE learning today.  There is a video of slides with my voice explaining the lesson so please make sure your volumes are turned up! There is an activity for you to complete at the end.

Well done Lime class!  Keep on letting your lights shine!  smiley

Tuesday 5th January.

Wow Lime class!  I was so impressed with all the amazing work that you emailed to me yesterday.  You all blew me away with the learning you did.  I am so proud of you! blush

Below is today's new learning.  There is a new phonic sound for you to practice and we are continuing with the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Today you will be sorting 3D shapes for your maths work.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our Zoom session at 11.30.  (Mums and Dads - hopefully you will have received an email from me yesterday with the details.  Do let me know if you didn't get an email).  During this session I will be introducing our new science topic before giving you an independent activity to try.  Look out for this later on today.

Keep up the great learning!  Have a good day.

Mrs Woodhouse

You might want to do the science activity practically and label a teddy, doll, action figure or even your own bodies!

Good morning Lime class!

Happy New Year! I know that the holidays were very different for most of us, but I hope you managed to enjoy yourself. As we start the New Year in these unusual times, please take extra care of yourselves and stay safe.

All virtual learning links and resources will be put up here on the class page daily.  I know virtual/home learning is not the same as being in school, but I will do my best to keep it fun and look forward to seeing what you have done each day and seeing your smiley faces in our zoom sessions!

Mrs Woodhouse 😀

Well done Lime class! You have all worked so hard this term and are making good progress with your learning.
Thank you so much for all your generous Christmas gifts. We would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas with your loved ones. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Just to let you know that our PE day will be on Wednesday next term so can children please come to school in their PE kits on this day.  Please ensure that earrings are covered or removed for this day.  Thank you.

Achiever of Term 2....

Well done for being our learner of the term! You are such a good role model in Lime class and always give 100% effort in your learning. Keep on letting your light shine! We are all so proud of you!

Look at some of our brilliant nativity scenes that we created for home learning!

A Bundle of Joy

I am excited to present our Key Stage 1 Nativity; A Bundle of Joy from Out of the Arc.

We have published the video privately through the school’s YouTube account.

We hope you enjoy our show!

Enjoying our delicious Christmas lunch today!
Tomorrow (Tuesday 15th) is our school Christmas dinner.  Children can come to school wearing a Christmas jumper along with normal school uniform.  We will not be having PE in the afternoon so no need to come in PE kits! Thank you.
Just a reminder that Home Learning is due in on Monday 14th December. We are looking forward to seeing your brilliant work and I know the children love sharing their books with each other.

Friday 11th December.

Learner of the week....
For great focus and listening and improvements in all of his learning due to his concentration.  Well Done and keep it up! We are very proud of you!

We are well underway with practising our songs for the KS1 Nativity - we have already recorded 2 songs! To help with one of our songs, it would be great if children could bring into school a Christmas hat, a festive headband or even a bit of tinsel - an accessory they can wear to make the song even more festive! Please do not feel that you have to go and buy anything especially for this - I do have a few bits that can be used! Please could these be in school by Thursday 10th December.

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 4th December

Learner of the week....

For being a fantastic role model and always ready for learning. She has developed in confidence so that she can now do her maths learning independently.  Well done - it is really helping you to progress with your maths work!

Magic Spells!

We have been practising our rhyming skills by creating magic spell poems.  The children loved getting into role and performing their spell.  Have a listen to some of our great spells!

Friday 27th November.

Learner of the week....

For being so focussed on his learning and becoming so much more independent with his work. He has tried hard to work out answers to subtraction number stories even though he missed a few lessons! Well done and keep up this brilliant focus and independence!

Thursday 26th November - science fun!

We carried out an investigation this afternoon to find out what material would be best to make an umbrella for Ted. We looked at these materials - paper, cloth, foil, plastic bag and felt. We predicted which one we thought would be the most waterproof.  Then we tested each material adding 10 drops of water using a pipette. Can you remember which material would be the best one to make an umbrella for Ted? Which material was the least waterproof?

Well Done to our winner of the PTA fireworks colouring competition!

Friday 20th November.

Learner of the Week...

For her consistent hard work and always trying her best.  This week she has used brilliant vocabulary to describe the properties of materials in our science learning and independently tested objects and recorded her findings in a table.  Keep up this great work! We are very proud of you!

Friday 13th November

Learner of the Week....

For being a super helper while we made our craft poppies and brilliant use of vocabulary to describe the feelings, appearance and personality of Rapunzel. Keep up the great work!

Wednesday 11th November.

This week in science, we have been exploring the properties of different materials.  Thinking about what words we could use to describe what the materials looked like and felt like.  We even learnt a new word: transparent.

Friday 6th November.

The children have all had a really good first week back at school and settled back into their routines.  We have had a busy week learning about materials in science, finding out our new book for English and creating firework pictures for art.

Home Learning books and this terms newsletter have been sent home today with the children.  They are also attached below too.

Learner of the week.........

A big well done to our learner of the week. You have come back to school with such a positive manner and have been ready for learning.  We have been so impressed with your phonics learning especially using special friends in your writing.  You came up with some brilliant ideas about our new book just from looking at a picture.  Keep up your great learning!

Term 2 Newsletter and Home Learning.

Well done Lime Class! You have all settled really well into Year 1 and have worked so hard this term.  Have a lovely week - rest and enjoy yourselves. We will see you back in school on Monday 2nd November.

Achiever of Term 1!

Friday 23rd October - A big well done to our achiever of the term! You have made a great star to Year 1! Keep up your amazing learning!

As part of our science learning, we went on an Autumn hunt around our beautiful school grounds to look for signs of Autumn.  We found red leaves, yellow leaves, pine cones, mushrooms and conkers.

We have seen some brilliant home learning this term.  From art pictures of the 4 seasons to practising writing letters and numbers.  The children enjoyed sharing their work with each other and talking about what they had done. Have a look at our great work below!

Sharing our Home Learning.

Tuesday 20th October - practising our ball control in PE.

Don’t forget that Home Learning books are due in on Monday.  We are looking forward to sharing your work!

Friday 16th October - Well done to our Learner of the Week! Keep up your enthusiasm for learning!

Friday 9th October - Well done to our Learner of the week! You have had an amazing week! Keep it up!

Friday 2nd October - A big well done to our Learner of the Week! Keep on letting your light shine!

Don’t forget to bring your reading books back to school tomorrow so you can get new ones to read for next week!

Thursday 1st October - We used the class iPads for the first time today! We enjoyed using the Bee-Bot app to practise inputting a sequence of instructions using forwards, backwards, left and right.

Wednesday 30th September - We have been thinking about the different creatures we have on our planet. We have been learning about the different ways we can help these animals to survive. We used the forest school area to think about the different creatures that we might see or find here. We worked in pairs to create a home for the different animals like hedgehogs, foxes, birds and insects.

Monday 28th September

A quick reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday 29th September) the children will be having individual photos taken in school.  They will need to come to school in their school uniform and NOT their PE kit.  Thank you.

Friday 25th September - Well done to our Learner of the week! Keep up your amazing learning!

23/09 - Today we were thinking about the different parts of our body. Using a picture from our Power of Reading book ‘Here we Are’ as a starting point, we thought about the parts of our body that are on the outside and the parts that we can’t see on the inside. We had fun drawing around each other to label our own diagram.

Seven Continents Song

We have been listening to this song to help us learn the 7 continents of the world.

Out and About - listen to our fantastic class poem!

Still image for this video
After reading the poem ‘Out and About’ we had a go at creating our own class poem. We used our experience of exploring in Forest School to write something that we saw, then we put all our ideas together to make our poem.

We had great fun exploring in forest school on Monday morning! We thought about what we could see, hear, find and how we felt being in the outdoor environment.

Friday 18th September - Well done to our Learner of the Week! Keep on being the best you can be!

Friday 11th September - Well done to our learner of the week! Keep up the great work!

Friday 11th September.

I have been so proud of how well the children have adapted to new routines in year 1. They have all worked so hard this week in all the different subjects we have been learning.
Today, the children will be coming home with their Home Learning books.  This will have some ideas for you to work through at home this term linked to our learning in school.  This can be kept at home but brought back into school on Monday 19th October so we can share each other’s work.  Please find a copy of the Home Learning below.
There will also be some reading books coming home today.  Please keep these at home to read until next Friday when they will be changed.  It may be helpful if children could bring a book bag or small rucksack with them on a Friday so that the reading books can be easily transported between home and school.

You will find another sheet in their home learning books too. It is a challenge sheet to complete at home if you wish and brought back into school once it is completed.
Please ensure that children come to school with a water bottle each day so they can stay hydrated.  We are now receiving the free fruit for schools daily so children are able to have this during morning break.
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend.

We have been working really hard this week in Lime class. Have a look at some of the things we got up to!

It has been lovely to see everyone back in school.  The children have had a great few days in Lime class and have settled well into Year 1. We are looking forward to a fantastic year together!

Please take a look at our class newsletter for Term 1 below.  It has lots of important information on it as well as what we will be learning about this term.

Reminders:

Reading books - on a Friday, your child will be bringing home 2 or 3 books to keep for the week. These will then need to be returned the following Friday.

Home Learning will be set next week and is to be completed throughout the term.  It is due on Monday 19th October.

PE will be on Tuesdays and children need to come to school in their PE kits.  As we move towards Autumn it will be important for children to wear dark tracksuit trousers and their school jumper to stay warm.  Trainers will also be more practical and comfortable to wear all day.  Earrings need to be taken out or covered at home.

Please ensure that any clothing and belongings brought into school are clearly labelled including water bottles, lunch boxes, book bags, PE kits, school uniform and coats.

Please ensure your child brings a filled water bottle into school everyday.

Please remember to use the lime email limeteacher@west-Malling.kent.sch.uk if you have any questions or for any information you need to give to us.

Thank you for your continued support.
