Homework
Reading – Children should read EVERY day. Everyone will have a book in their tray which they are reading at school, they are welcome to also take this home to read.
Maths – Mathletics and times table practise will form the maths homework, it is expected that both are done at least once a week. By the end of this academic year the children are expected to know their 2x, 5x, 3x, 4x and 8x tables. The order in which we learn the X tables is: 2x, 5x, 10x then 3x, 4x, 8x. This knowledge will be vital for learning in Year 4.
Spellings – Children will have spellings to practise each week, linked to learning in class. Please make sure that children practise spelling them correctly in a sentence.
Weekly homework – We hope that they are fun and interesting activities that will develop them as learners. It will be given out on a Friday and is due in on a Wednesday. There will be a different activity for each week and castle points will be awarded generously.
Term 2 English
Week 1
Mulberry Class wondered why the giants have never been captured and decided to make wanted posters! The children modified nouns to create noun phrases, created compound words and used a range of sentence types.
Week 2
Year 3 became inventors this week, as they created their own revolting recipes for giants. They identified the verbs needed at the start of a sentence to create a command, recorded commands in order to create a recipe and identified patterns for words ending in ‘ous’.
Week 3
This week we have read chapters: Journey to Dream Country and Dream Catching from the BFG. We have discussed these questions: What would make a good dream? What would make a bad dream? Do all dreams make sense?
We have also learnt that we can create nouns using the ‘shun’ suffix but this can be spelt in three different ways.
invent - invention
explode - explosion
magic - magician
The children then created their own dream jars using nouns with the 'shun' suffix.
