Mathematics
Unit: Angles and properties of shapes
This unit builds on children’s understanding of the names and some of the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. It extends children’s basic comprehension of these shapes with an emphasis on identifying right angles, lines of symmetry, vertical and horizontal lines and parallel and perpendicular lines and edges.
Unit: Statistics
This unit builds on Year 2 Statistics, where children were introduced to basic pictograms and block charts. It develops their understanding further, and encourages them to explore the range of information that they can get from the data presented to them.
Science
We have learnt about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We also sorted food into the different food groups.
Week 2 Art and Design
Sculpture & 3D: Abstract shape
Please can your child bring in a cereal box for our Art and Design project on Monday 9th June 2025.
Lesson 1
Can I join 2D shapes to make 3D structures?
We will consider the definition of 'sculpture' and learn simple techniques for turning 2D card shapes into 3D structures.
Lesson 2
Can I join materials in different ways when working in 3D?
We will learn about the work of sculptor Sir Anthony Caro and create abstract sculpture on a larger scale.
Lesson 3
Can I develop ideas for 3D artwork ?
We will understand how manipulating shape can create abstract forms and develop drawings as part of the sculpture planning process.
Lesson 4
Can I apply knowledge of sculpture when working in 3D?
We will apply what we have learned about abstract sculpture and constructing our own artwork inspired by playground equipment.
Lesson 5
Can I evaluate and improve an artwork?
We will compare sculptures by different artists, and evaluate and add detail to our own finished artworks.
