Luca watched BBC Newsround today and saw a report about Wind Energy.  I have typed what Hayley (the news reporter) reported and also included the link, if you would like to watch the report yourself.

'There is some good news for the environment in the UK. Energy generated from renewable sources like solar and wind power over took power from burning fossil fuels like gas and coal for the first time in 2020.  Wind generated power is the biggest winner, according to a new report, generating nearly a quarter of green UK electricity.'

Today Mr Boyer gave Willow Class a presentation about Wind Power.

Mr Boyer explained what electricity is, how it is currently made and by what energy source and why it is considered unsustainable.

Then he moved onto to explain why we are using wind turbines and that they are a renewable energy source.  Mr Boyer also discussed with Willow Class why there aren't wind turbines everywhere.  For example, wind doesn't blow all the time or when you want it, the impact it has on the environment and the need for space.

Mr Boyer then gave Willow a class a demonstration of how wind turbines work, which was very exciting!

Finally, Mr Boyer discussed what  could be in the future for the UK and the world, thinking about renewable energy and how we can reduce energy demand.

Willow Class enjoyed the presentation and learnt many new interesting facts about Wind Power.
