Young Language Ambassadors (YLA)
Young Langauage Ambassadors are a group of Key Stage 2 children who meet every Tuesday from 3.00 - 3.45 pm with Mrs Adam, Inclusion Leader. It is their role in school to provide a welcome to new children to the school and to especially support those who come from another country and may not speak English. YLA also enjoy finding out about different countries, cultures and languages. They very much enjoy trying out food from other countries!
YLA like to keep abreast of current affairs worldwide and feedback to the school on issues of social injustice and natural disasters. For the last two years they have supported the 90 kg Rice Challenge through the sale of fairly traded bags of Kilombero rice, which enables a secondary age child in Malawi to attend school for a year.
Recently YLA have been finding out about South Africa and learning some words in Afrikaans. Mrs Martin came in to teach them about daily life in South Africa and brought some food to try - Ghost Pops (a tomato flavoured snack) were very popular! They also celebrated the Chinese New Year by learning to use chopsticks.
